Trader Johann told Hiccup and the Riders where they could find his missing stuff and warned Hiccup not to board the Reaper because it was filled with booby traps. Since it is revealed that Johann is actually a villain, he most likely told Hiccup not to board the Reaper knowing it was spark his curiosity. Johann was unable to obtain the Dragon Eye that was on the ship so he told Hiccup about the ship so he didn’t have to get the Dragon Eye himself!
Update: I watched the finale over the weekend but I don’t think my theory was confirmed or denied. Stay tuned for new theories from me!
